A man facing trial next month for allegedly trying to shoot 76ers star Allen Iverson and a friend outside a nightclub was convicted on federal gun
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Oct. 28, 2005 - A man facing trial next month for allegedly trying to shoot 76ers star Allen Iverson and a friend outside a nightclub was convicted on federal gun and drug charges.
Carlos Manuel Perez, 28, was convicted Thursday by a federal court jury. U.S. District Judge Juan R. Sanchez ordered Perez returned to prison to await sentencing, and his attorney, Joseph Santaguida, said he would appeal.
Perez, a former manager at the Signatures strip club, was accused of shooting at Iverson and a friend, Larry Robinson, outside the Glam nightclub, in the early morning hours of April 14, 2003. Robinson was wounded by the gunfire.
The gun and drug charges were brought after police searching Perez' girlfriend's car for evidence to link Perez to the shooting discovered handguns and crack cocaine, cocaine and marijuana worth more than $20,000 in a red duffel bag in the truck of the car, which investigators said Perez often drove.
