Fresh off his visit with Allen Iverson in Atlanta, Ga., on Tuesday, 76ers President Billy King confirmed to Sixers.com that Iverson will be donning a Sixers jersey for his 11th season in 2006-07.
At this time, Allen is going to be a Sixer, King said. We can now move forward on getting ready for the upcoming season.
Iversons name had been linked to numerous trade scenarios throughout the offseason. The seven-time All-Star said at a press conference on July 14 to promote the Allen Iverson Celebrity Classic that he had always wanted to remain with the club.
"I want to be a Sixer, I've said that since day one," Iverson said at the time. "If I'm not wanted, I don't want to be a Sixer, and I'm willing to start my career all over. Everybody knows that I want to be a Philadelphia 76er.
In 2004-05, Iverson had one of his best seasons as a professional, averaging 33.0 points and 7.4 assists in 43.1 minutes per game over 72 contests.
Iversons agent Leon Rose told the Philadelphia Daily News that Iverson was happy, excited and can focus on the task at hand. I'm not surprised. I said I didn't think he'd be traded. That was my gut.''
