Inqlings | Piscopo open to a run for N.J. governor

Joe Piscopo - Saturday Night Live alum, filmmaker and die-hard Jersey guy - says he has an open mind about the move to draft him.

Doug Friedline, the political consultant who drafted onetime wrestler Jesse Ventura for Minnesota's highest office in 1998, has been after Piscopo to consider politics since the summer, when Jim McGreevey announced that he would step down. Piscopo balked then.

But last week, a persistent Friedline created the committee Run Joe Run 2005. Piscopo says he will hear out Friedline and associates at a meeting Sunday. "I have to say this with the greatest humility: It's my obligation to listen. I want to do what's right for New Jersey," says Piscopo, 53, a lifelong Democrat who lives in Hunterdon County.

(That could mean not running, he acknowledges.)

Piscopo, who says he has a concern for social issues, admires Sen. Jon Corzine, the Democratic front-runner. Should "one of the candidates implode, then I'd go in for sure," he says.

Any decision still would hinge on the opinion of his wife, Kimberly. And she's a Republican.

Jeffrey Resnick, an attorney for Iverson, last week filed a writ in Common Pleas Court in Philadelphia that could lead to a complaint against the New York-based afternoon host, whose gossip segments are a highlight of her show. AI is a frequent topic.

Resnick yesterday declined to describe the alleged comments and said it was premature to discuss the matter.

Writs often are filed in libel, slander or defamation cases as the plaintiff's lawyer seeks to obtain information - for example, tapes from the station. Besides Williams, the writ names WUSL-FM (98.9) and station owner Clear Channel Communications.

A Clear Channel rep offered no comment because he had not seen the filing.
On a happier note for Iverson: He and wife Tawanna are expecting their fourth child this summer. Shocked

that's not really new news...but i'm happy for them I know AI loves his kids and seriously doubt he would love this one any less then the rest. Now that they're having all of these babies i know for sure Tawanna don't have a job..But why should she when she has a man that's taking care of them. Laughing
