CLEVELAND (Ticker) -- Even without LeBron James, the Cleveland Cavaliers had more than enough to turn back the slumping Philadelphia 76ers.
Eric Williams scored 20 points to lead a balanced attack as the Cavaliers built a big lead and held on for a 95-87 victory over the 76ers, their third in as many meetings this season.
The Cavaliers played their third straight game without James, their teenage rookie phenom and leading scorer at better than 20 points per game. They improved to 2-1 without James as five players scored in double figures.
Dajuan Wagner added 17 points off the bench, Carlos Boozer contributed 15 and 15 rebounds and Zydrunas Ilgauskas scored 14 points for the Cavaliers, who led by as many as 20 points in the second quarter and withstood another Gund Arena outburst by Allen Iverson.
Iverson, who has a pair of 50-point games at Gund, scored 21 of his 32 points in the third quarter. But he managed just another hoop in the game's final minute as the Sixers lost for the fifth time in six games.
Cleveland has won three in a row from Philadelphia after dropping 16 straight in the series.
Williams and Boozer set the tone with eight points each in the first quarter, when the Cavaliers outscored the Sixers, 11-0, on the break and raced to a 30-18 lead. |
