I was watching a preview of next season's "Soul Food", and there was a part where the sisters were talking about skin tone. How do any of you feel about complexion? Does being light-skinned or dark-skinned define a person's "blackness" or state of "keeping it real"?
I feel that complexion definitely does not define blackness. If a light-skinned person has a white parent, biologically they're "half-black", but not culturally.
Personality or wardrobe do not define your blackness either, because despite the fact a "typical" Black person may act "ghetto" or "hip-hop" and all, that doesn't necessarily mean you're keeping it real. If you wearing "ice", throwbacks, and material things and you can't afford that s***, you're not keeping it real. Also, there are Asians and Indians in my school who wear Sean John, FUBU, and G-Unit stuff; obviously that doesn't make them Black.

WHY DOES SOCIETY THINK ONLY BLACK PEOPLE CAN BE GHETTO?
I MEAN WEARING NAME BRAND CLOTHES, USING SLANG AND LISTENING TO RAP MUSIC IS NOT A RACE THING ITS THE HIP HOP CULTURE.
I BE WATCHING RICKI LAKE AND THEY BE SAYING STUFF LIKE MY SISTER IS WHITE BUT SHE DRESS AND ACT LIKE A BLACK PERSON. I MEAN HOW THE f*** DOES A BLACK PERSON DRESS AND ACT, LET ME KNOW CAUSE LAST TIME I CHECKED WE ALL GOT OUR OWN PERSONALITY AND STYLE.
BUT ANYWAY I CANT WAIT TIL FEB 25, NEW SEASON OF SOUL FOOD
